We started this project 2 years ago when we were asked to create a 6 week Lenten series on race for a local congregation. Using multicultural children's literature  participants engaged in discussions about diversity focusing on different cultures and race. We found congregants were comfortable talking about race as they related to experiencing it through the eyes of children.

Since that time our services have grown. We have built a multi-cultural children's collection as well as expanded our collection on race and culture. We guide book discussions, provide resources and guidance to those who want to expand their knowledge on race and culture. In addition we have opened a Reading Resource Room which currently holds those collections and is offered for use to those in our community.

Future plans include discussions through our podcast, Black Literati and customized reading lists based on the specific needs of an organization or community group. The Clinton Macomb Public Library has offered to work with us to coordinate our collections , ensuring that what we have on our shelves, the community can find on their shelves.  This is a valued partnership promoting access and cultural literacy.
